Barley Saturday Stallion Parade 2013
The West Wales town of Cardigan (or Ceredigion), holds this traditional event on the last saturday of April. So named as 'Barley Saturday' for the reason that the fair was held after the last crop was sown, which was barley. The fair had two main purposes, the first was the hiring of farm hands and the second being farmers could inspect the stallions that were on offer to cover their mares, for the foals to be born the following year. The fair has been held since the 19th century.
